Dry, Clean Air for Laser Cutting


As Laser cutting machines are capable of cutting a variety of materials and shapes, laser cutting process is widely used in the processing of sheet metal, metal processing, advertisement, kitchenware, automobiles, lamps, saw blades, elevators, metal crafts, textile machinery, food machinery, glass production, aerospace, medical equipment, instrumentation, and many other industries. Particularly in the sheet metal processing industry, it has replaced traditional methods of processing and is highly regarded by users.


In addition to the laser, which is capable of providing high energy, auxiliary gas is an essential ingredient in the process of cutting. Auxiliary gases include oxygen (O2), nitrogen (N2), and compressed air. Their primary functions are to cool the material to prevent it from hardening, which is hot treated; secondly, gas is used to remove melted metal slag and prevent dust from blocking the laser nozzle, extending its service life.



Since nitrogen and oxygen are more expensive than compressed air, and air itself contains few oxygen and nitrogen, so using compressed air instead of nitrogen cutting can greatly reduce production costs by 50%. 


Generally, laser cutting machines are suggested to equip with four-stage air filters, or even five-stage filters to extend their life to have clean compressed air. If the water mist and oil contained in the compressed air are not cleaned and sprayed on the protective mirror surface of the laser cutting head under high pressure, the transmission of the laser beam will be seriously affected, the focus will be scattered, and the product will be impenetrable, resulting in waste. If it is a super high-power laser cutting machine, as long as the protective mirror or nozzle surface is stuck with a little very fine oil film or water mist, it may also cause the high-energy laser to burn out the laser head.
