The filter element L058 ACS is made from thousands of activated carbon granules of sufficient thickness and high dwell time will be far more effective than one made from a thin layer of carbon.

Activated carbon air filters remove pollutants from the air with a process known as adsorption, during adsorption the pollutants stick to the outside of the carbon. Whereas with absorption, the pollutants are absorbed inside the structure itself–as with the sponge.
